Recently I was asked to decorate a wall in a living room. It was wallpapered with expensive, hotel quality wall paper according to the owner. He wanted to avoid drilling. The living room was not large, though the wall was of considerable size and completely empty. I liked the challenge.
The wall paper had a golden, olive like glow. Quite nice.
Due to the emptiness, the wall was asking for something big. Something that would fill the wall in the horizontal direction. And something that would match the color of the wall paper.
I remembered I had been experimenting with a macro lens a year ago. I made some shots on a late afternoon in the fall. The light was fantastic.
The location was near a small lake or big pond in the forest. Leaves had fallen into the water and somehow, drops of water appeared on the fallen leaves. The drops worked like magnifying glasses, emphasizing the structure of the leave. I got caught by this expression of nature and spent the next hour on my stomach with my camera almost in the water.
This went through my head looking at this wall. I've discussed the idea with the client: 3 big fotos of drops on leaves. I explained how great these drops would look when blown up and how the color of the leaves would match the wall paper. Even without seeing the pictures we came to an agreement.
And in order to save the wall paper I proposed to print on foam so I could use a tiny little nail to hang it.
3 days later I was able to hang the result. I liked it. And fortunately the owner too :)
